GPT Image 2.5 is OpenAI’s image generation and editing model, released on September 8, 2026. It comes in two versions, Flare and Sunburst, and follows GPT Image 2 with faster generation, more natural images and details that stay the same across several edits.
OpenAI calls Flare its fastest model for high-quality everyday images, and Sunburst its most capable model for image generation and editing: it adds precision for detailed work and takes longer to generate. Both take the same prompts, reference photos and sizes in Overchat AI.
Yes. Both Flare and Sunburst are open on the free plan. You get 100 credits every day, enough for four 1K images. Paid plans give more credits for 2K and 4K images and parallel runs.
