What is ERNIE 5.0?
ERNIE 5.0 is Baidu's flagship AI model unveiled at Baidu World 2025. It's a natively omni-modal model with 2.4 trillion parameters that jointly processes text, images, audio, and video. The ERNIE 5.0 benchmark results show it outperforms GPT-5-High and Gemini 2.5 Pro on multimodal reasoning, document understanding, and image-based QA tasks.
ERNIE 5.0 developer Baidu is the largest search engine company in China, occupying a position similar to that of Alphabet in the rest of the world. The model uses a Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) architecture where only a fraction of experts are activated per query, keeping computation efficient while delivering state-of-the-art performance.
ERNIE 5.0 excels in multimodal understanding, instruction following, creative writing, factual reasoning, agentic planning, and tool use. It can generate long-form articles, marketing copy, scripts, code, and multimedia assets from a single prompt.

ERNIE 5.0 offers natively omni-modal capabilities, meaning it was trained from the ground up to understand and generate text, images, audio, and video together — not as separate modules bolted together.multilingual support — it speaks English and Chinese particularly well, though it also understands other languages: Spanish, German, French, Italian, Indonesian and many others.
Compared to ERNIE 4.5, the 5.0 version features dramatically improved comprehension, logical reasoning, memory, and persuasiveness. It achieved leading scores on OCRBench, DocVQA, and ChartQA benchmarks.improved reasoning, better factual accuracy, and many users note its improved creative writing ability (although this is subjective).
The ERNIE 5.0 preview is now available to the public via ERNIE Bot and to enterprise users via Baidu AI Cloud's MaaS platform Qianfan. Baidu also announced new Kunlun AI chips — the M100 for inference (2026) and M300 for training (2027).
This followed the success of DeepSeek. Baidu's AI ecosystem, built on the PaddlePaddle framework, now supports more than 23 million developers and 760,000 businesses worldwide, making ERNIE 5.0 part of one of the largest AI development communities globally.
